Knowing your body shape can help you to choose what clothes to buy and which parts of the body to show off and which parts you might wanna hide! There are quite a few body shapes and if you don't fit one exactly you will be close to fitting in to atleast one without a doubt.
Hourglass:
Short, fitted jackets that cinch at the waist and finish just below your hips will make your body look longer than it is, this will show off your legs and your narrow waist.
Pencil skirts look great on hourglass figures but choose your fabric wisely so it doesn't ride up as you walk - not a great look.
Straight-legged jeans that skim your thighs and are cropped at the ankle work well for this shape as do bootcut jeans, as they complement your curves. Large pockets on the bum and a dark colour will make your choice even more flattering and fabulous.
Fitted, scoop-necked tops over baggier, round-necked tees are great. They'll flatter and balance your shape better. You've got the curves to wear fitted jumpers and other knits and can add belts, brooches and bangles to draw attention to your curves.
Apple:
V-necks are PERFECT for apple shapes so no polo necks, round necks. Wearing a simple plain t with a waist coat will look perfect as the pannels created by the two items will break up your mid section also on the plus side the waist coat will nip you in.
Skirts for apple shapes should zip at the size and be flat fronted to avoid extra bulk. As you have slim hips and a small bottom this means you can go for a more fitted shape. Avoid skirts that narrow towards your knees like pencil skirts and go for a more flaring skirt to flatter your shape.
The best dress for an apple shape is a sleevless dress with a deep v-neck and a defined waist. A well cut dress that skims your middle and stops mid thigh will slim down your mid-drift because it will make your legs look slimmer. Avoid ruffles and busy patterns as they are unflattering for the apple shape figure. Wrap dresses are always a winner for an apple body shape as they fit nicely over a fuller bust.

Athletic:
Short, fitted dresses are good as they will show of your slender shape and long legs. Dresses with simple spaghetti straps instantly add femininity.
Opt for empire line cut necks and not round or plunging as they will make your bust look smaller.
Leggins and skinny/straight leg jeans are great to show off your slim legs.
With cardigans look for ruffled or waterfall style cardigans to draw away the attention from your square frame.
Pear:
Show off your slim top half with strapless tops and dresses. A strapless maxi dress is a great but try and find one with a nipped-in waist and a flared skirt as that will flatter your shape more.
Make you wide hips look smaller with dark block colours on your bottom half. Dark bootcut jeans will elongate the legs.
Showcase your fantastic small waist with a thin belt across the smallest part.
Look for a skirt with front pleates, A line skirts will also work as they will make you look slimmer and skim over your hips.
Jackets will make your waist look great. Make sure they stop at the top of your hips. Any shorter will make you look boxy; longer and they'll make hips look wider.
